The structure, designed by Italian architect David Fisher, has floors that can each rotate independently of one another. Allegedly the building will be powered entirely by wind and solar energy via outer solar panels and wind turbines between the floors. With floors that rotate, buyers will constantly have a different view of the Persian Gulf. Condos are currently going for about $3,000 per square foot. Check the vid BELOW.
If you like doing laps in the swimming pool, you might want to stock up on the energy drinks before diving in to this one. It is more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water. Yesterday the Guinness Book of World Records named the vast pool beside the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world.
Acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest swimming pool, the lagoon measures 1,013 metres in length and covers an area of eight hectares. But if you fancy splashing out on one of your own ? and you have the space to accommodate it ? then beware: This one took five years to build, cost nearly £1billion and the annual maintenance bill will be £2million. The man-made saltwater lagoon has been attracting huge crowds to the San Alfonso del Mar resort at Algarrobo, on Chile’s southern coast, since it opened last month. Its turquoise waters are so crystal clear that you can see the bottom even in the deep end. It dwarfs the world’s second biggest pool, the Orthlieb ? nicknamed the Big Splash ? in Morocco, which is a mere 150 yards long and 100 yards wide. An Olympic-size pool measures some 50 yards by 25 yards.
The saltwater pool contains 250,000 cubic metres of water and is navigable in small boats.
Children play in the clear waters of the 3,323 ft long pool.
Chile’s monster pool uses a computer- controlled suction and filtration system to keep fresh seawater in permanent circulation, drawing it in from the ocean at one end and pumping it out at the other. The sun warms the water to 26c, nine degrees warmer than the adjoining sea. Chilean biochemist Fernando Fischmann, whose Crystal Lagoons Corporation designed the pool, said advanced engineering meant his company could build “an impressive artificial paradise” even in inhospitable areas. “As long as we have access to unlimited seawater, we can make it work, and it causes no damage to the ocean.”
It’s the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana—but change is in the air. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against “crimes” like noisy portable radios, graffiti and public drunkenness. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink (Ben Kingsley) for therapy, while crushing on his step daughter (Olivia Thirlby). Famke Janssen, Mary Kate Olsen, and Method Man round out the cast in this edgy, bittersweet, and funny coming of age story.

Pirates took four European tourists hostage after their yacht ran out of fuel off the coast of northern Somalia in the Red Sea’s Gulf of Aden, according to a Somaliland official.
The pirates then took their hostages — a man, woman, their child and their yacht’s pilot — into hills around the fishing town of Las Qoray, said Ahmed Yusuf Yasin, vice president of the self-declared Republic of Somaliland.
Somaliland soldiers and local residents were searching for the pirates in an effort to free the hostages, Yasin said.
Las Qoray is in a territory claimed by both Puntland, a self-declared autonomous state, and Somalia. The two sides clashed over the disputed land earlier this year.
Yasin said he believed the hostages were either French or German.
Earlier this month the U.N. Security Council gave nations new powers to pursue pirates into the waters off Somalia in an effort to combat a new spate of hijackings off the Horn of Africa.
The Gulf of Aden in particular has become a treacherous stretch for shipping in recent months, with more than two dozen pirate attacks reported since the beginning of 2008, according to the International Maritime Bureau. Nine of those have been successful hijackings, the bureau said.

The Patagoonies in Palo Alto are got revved up for an extra-special event this past weekend. They were proud to announce that directors, Stanford University students, and friends of Patagonia, Nicholai Lidow and Britt Caillouette, introduced the surf documentary Sliding Liberia at 7 pm on Saturday, June 7, in their shop on Alma Street. The film features the sick surf skills of Crystal Thornburg and Dan Malloy, both Patagonia Surf Ambassadors, as well as Chris Del Moro, an artist whose work is featured on their surf tees, and, most notably, the epic beauty of West African coastal beaches. Central to the message of the film is not the role of surfing in the lives of traveling Americans, but the soul-liberating role the sport can have in the lives of those so greatly affected by civil war in Liberia.
“Australia” is Baz Luhrmann’s first feature film since the 2001 musical success Moulin Rouge! The highly anticipated film centres on an English aristocrat in the 1930s, played by Nicole Kidman, who comes to northern Australia to sell a cattle property the size of Belgium. After an epic journey across the country with a rough-hewn drover, Hugh Jackman, they are caught in the bombing of Darwin during World War II. Filming began late April 2007 & concluded December 19th 2007. The film is slated for a November 13 2008 release. Click HERE for more details.
As a raging Gonzo fan, I feel ecstatic to publish this.
Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompsonpremiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year in Park City, Utah. This documentary contains a lot of personal and unreleased footage with great interviews from the key people involved in his life.
The brief excerpt below describing the film was taken from IMDB.
“Fueled by a raging libido, Wild Turkey, and superhuman doses of drugs, Thompson was a true “free lance,” goring sacred cows with impunity, hilarity, and a steel-eyed conviction for writing wrongs. Focusing on the good doctor’s heyday, 1965 to 1975, the film includes clips of never-before-seen (nor heard) home movies, audiotapes, and passages from unpublished manuscripts.”
While current eco-trends make companies quick to boast about their use of biodegradable glues and materials, Patagonia has been quietly pioneering greener methods for years, oftentimes inventing the new technologies. Their newest innovation is the world’s first recyclable nylon jacket, TheShelter Stone ($350), which can be processed through their Common Threads Recycling Program.
The art world lost one of its great countercultural pioneers Sunday morning, June 1st when psychedelic artist Alton Kelley passed away in Northern California at age 68. He is best known as half of the famous poster design team of “Kelley & Mouse” (the “Mouse” in question being one Stanley Mouse) who together fabricated some of the most iconic images of the 1960s & early ’70s psychedelic movement. Both shared a profound love of hot rods, motorcycles, and general outlaw culture and the pair worked in tandem to create some of the most memorable concert posters for Bill Graham’s Fillmore East & West and Chet Helms‘ Family Dog venues, including the legendary and ubiquitous…
