Mr. Brainwash or MBW is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker.
MBW has spent the last 9 years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about graffiti art. But whilst filming many of the world’s renowned street artists at work, MBW began putting his camera aside and making art his own. He has graduated from a few hand drawn stickers to giant billboard sized paste-ups, eventually becoming one of the most prolific street artists in California.
MBW does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. His artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to 11. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational.
“The Life is Beautiful” was the first exhibition ever mounted by MBW. It took place in a former Hollywood studio complex and featured over 100 paintings, sculptures and prints alongside an intallation made from 100,000 shoes and a life-size re-creation of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks.” See more images from “The Life is Beautiful” after the jump.
Alphanumericis back with the same bold graphics and provocative statements which earned them many accolades at the turn of the century. With a series of experienced people at the helm, this comes as no surprise as their love for cornerstones of culture such as music and knowledge have translated into their design work and branched out into mixtapes. The first deck seen above is the Calculus Deck illustrating a monogram of math symbols. The second deck seen above is the Stacks Deck which revolves around piles of vinyl records. Stay tuned for availability of these exclusive decks.
Above is a Hawaiian ice cream truck that was customized and painted by David Choe in collaboration with EWOK and REVOK. The only catch? You have to fly to Honolulu to peep it live.
Choe was born in Los Angeles. Today he is currently homeless, wandering the Earth, making good art and bad music. Choe wants to retire early, illustrate the entire bible, and paint the Great Wall of China, but who knows anything with this guy. Check out his website http://davidchoe.com/. This guy is super talented!
Fubiz offers a vast variety of different shapes, sizes and forms, but my favorites are ones that have some sort of interactive or playful feature, like the pull-tab (above). Obviously, the most important objective is to get the message across, and in that respect some are definitely superior to others. Nonetheless, it’s always a fun exercise to see how designers utilize a limited amount of space. To view all 70 unique business cards click HERE.
Here’s one for the dining room. Drinking, Smoking, Raging is an 8″ x 20″ oil on panel painting from one of my favorite artist’s Bob Dob; available through the Billy Shire Fine Arts gallery for $2,200. Also available through the same gallery is another cool painting from Bob Dob titled Amphead, priced at $7,000. Check out the Amphead image after the jump.

The art world lost one of its great countercultural pioneers Sunday morning, June 1st when psychedelic artist Alton Kelley passed away in Northern California at age 68. He is best known as half of the famous poster design team of “Kelley & Mouse” (the “Mouse” in question being one Stanley Mouse) who together fabricated some of the most iconic images of the 1960s & early ’70s psychedelic movement. Both shared a profound love of hot rods, motorcycles, and general outlaw culture and the pair worked in tandem to create some of the most memorable concert posters for Bill Graham’s Fillmore East & West and Chet Helms‘ Family Dog venues, including the legendary and ubiquitous…
Sydney based artist Andy Uprock headed to Melbourne, AU for his debut exhibition on Wednesday, May 28th, at Section 8. Andy transforms streets into walk-by galleries using ordinary plastic cups and existing wire fences. He calls it Cuprocking. Huge shout out to all our OZ peeps at Campus East/Trenchtown, U.O.W., and all the goon heads!

This brand new poster has been floating around for a few days, but we thought today would be a great day to finally feature it. It’s a wonderful compliment to the previous poster showed in April that only featured Batman. This time around, the Joker makes a solo appearance.
Thanks to Batman-on-Film.com for debuting this banner. Also, check out the other final poster or the five other international posters released recently as well. The international posters are crazy! The Dark Knight arrives in theaters worldwide on July 18th this summer! I can’t wait for this shit! Thoughts?
These are two brand new colorful pieces by Brazilian artist Guilherme Marconi. Check out more of his amazing work on his website entitled “My Schizophrenic Brain“.
Muto is an ambiguous animation by the artist Blu. The video depicts rough sketches of different figures melting into a fast paced environment. Painted on public walls in Buenos Aires and Baden, this video combines graffiti, rough sketchy figures, and trippy animation in a real world street setting. Overall, Blu did an incredible job with the animation by giving it the “acid trip” effect.
This incredible Black Keys Print is a preview of the new Print Tease feature on Live Music Blog. Designed for their show at The Showbox in Seattle, it is a collaboration between two great artists, Nate Duval and Jon Smith. Although Nate and Jon both have been successful on their own, they’ve done a number of collaborations under the title of 1982.
This poster effectively brings together the dichotomy of the new Keys sound, and melds the individual style’s of Nate and Jon so well. The background pattern of the poster, bisecting circles, is a Nate Duval staple. Those patterns always remind of a funky, lounge-y feeling, in line with Danger Mouse’ production flourishes. But it’s printed here in muted blues and greens that speak to the Key’s blues revivalist sound. The same can be said about the portraits of guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney. They are rendered to look like stained glass (the old), but updated in a bright and fractured style (the new), with almost fluorescent colors which can be found all over Jon Smith’s Posters.
Each week LMB looks at a new poster that’s caught their eye, usually for a recent or upcoming gig. Tons of great posters are being produced every week for concerts all across the country and world; hopefully these quick posts will show you some new artists and some exciting prints. Let them know what you think about their picks, and if something has recently held your attention, Let Them Know About It.
