For Amelia Zupke, Photography is simply a way of life. Inspired by the color green, Zupke’s artistic journey began here in Akron, OH at King Elementary. This is where Zupke found her fascination with the effortless concept of taking pictures.
Her first toy was an outlandish green, yellow and red M&M’s plastic camera that took film resembling a funky pair of WeSC Headphones. An avid Zupke brought that silly ‘toy‘ everywhere and it eventually paid off after graduating from Firestone High School in 2004. A determined Zupke then pursued Photography at Ohio University in Athens. Zupke graduated four years later with a B.S. in Visual Communication with concentrations in Commercial Photography, Advertising and Design. Photography is Zupke’s foremost passion in the way she creatively captures rare visions for others to see. Her work ranges from Commercial to Fine Art; Travel to Portrait; and Vivid Color to Black and White. Zupke’s artistic views and abilities are infinite as she crosses boundaries in the world of Photography daily.
Amy’s second passion is traveling. Her most significant experience was living in Brisbane, OZ where she studied Photography and Art at Griffith University: Queensland College of Art. Zupke never let school get in the way of exploring Australia’s east coast and various parts of New Zealand. In her free time she was occupied with surfing, playing with kangaroos, exploring new cities, and meeting people from around the world. Zupke’s dream job is a sky diving instructor by day, food critic by night, while traveling the world taking pictures with her ‘toy‘. Who knows where Zupke’s organic presence will take her, but one thing’s certain: this girl will be always down with the 330. Check out more of Amelia Zupke’s Photography BELOW.
It’s the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip-hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana—but change is in the air. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudy Giuliani, is beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against “crimes” like noisy portable radios, graffiti and public drunkenness. Set against this backdrop, Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) spends his last summer before college selling dope throughout New York City, trading it with his shrink (Ben Kingsley) for therapy, while crushing on his step daughter (Olivia Thirlby). Famke Janssen, Mary Kate Olsen, and Method Man round out the cast in this edgy, bittersweet, and funny coming of age story.

London’s Street Art scene exploded in May with BANKSY’s official “Cans Festival,” which is a sort of global gathering of stencil art heads unprecedented in scale. Now the organization has released an official time-lapse recap ABOVE of the event from bare beginning to the inevitable endless queue.
Graffiti marker maker Krink is known for pushing the limits in the ink game, and the company’s custom Chrome Ferrari 599 GTB brings the same rebel spirit to the road. The Chrome Ferrari appears to sport a set of aftermarket black rims, matching black taillights, and undoubtedly more modifications beyond what’s apparent in the images posted. We’re presuming this whip is driven by the company’s founder, Craig Costello. Check out a rear end shot after the jump.
“Some call it tagging, some call it writing, still others call it bombing–it’s all graffiti. Whether it’s art or not is another matter, but it’s undeniably illegal. Tony Silver and Henry Chalfant’s historic PBS documentary Style Wars tracks the rise and fall of subway graffiti in New York in the late 1970s and early 1980s. At the peak of its popularity, graffiti was as much a part of B-boy culture as rapping, scratching, and breaking. The filmmakers present a sympathetic, but well-rounded portrait of their subject through extensive interviews with taggers–notably Seen, Kase, and Dondi–art collectors, transit authorities, and even Mayor Ed Koch, who would eventually put the hammer down. Along the way, they documented the burgeoning breakdance scene, with a focus on the world-famous Rock Steady Crew. The soundtrack features selections from Grandmaster Flash, the Treacherous Three, and other tagger-approved icons of old-school hip-hop.”
Mr. Brainwash or MBW is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker.
MBW has spent the last 9 years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about graffiti art. But whilst filming many of the world’s renowned street artists at work, MBW began putting his camera aside and making art his own. He has graduated from a few hand drawn stickers to giant billboard sized paste-ups, eventually becoming one of the most prolific street artists in California.
MBW does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. His artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to 11. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational.
“The Life is Beautiful” was the first exhibition ever mounted by MBW. It took place in a former Hollywood studio complex and featured over 100 paintings, sculptures and prints alongside an intallation made from 100,000 shoes and a life-size re-creation of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks.” See more images from “The Life is Beautiful” after the jump.
Alphanumericis back with the same bold graphics and provocative statements which earned them many accolades at the turn of the century. With a series of experienced people at the helm, this comes as no surprise as their love for cornerstones of culture such as music and knowledge have translated into their design work and branched out into mixtapes. Above is a Hawaiian ice cream truck that was customized and painted by David Choe in collaboration with EWOK and REVOK. The only catch? You have to fly to Honolulu to peep it live.
Choe was born in Los Angeles. Today he is currently homeless, wandering the Earth, making good art and bad music. Choe wants to retire early, illustrate the entire bible, and paint the Great Wall of China, but who knows anything with this guy. Check out his website http://davidchoe.com/. This guy is super talented!
