Skater

Deathbowl to Downtown, a movie made by NCP Film, is a documentary about the history of skateboarding in New York City. With promises to be an unprecedented film, the documentary not only explore the culture of street skating, but also provides an anthropological overview of skating’s shift from the 70’s to modern day. It also digs into broader issues such as how urban planning changes the environment of skaters and how skateboarders went from being ignored to being loved. With never-before-seen footage and interviews ranging from old school skaters to current innovators, Deathbowl to Downtown is definitely a film worth watching.

Clevelanders: 23 Cent Pizza on Thursday

5 05 2008

Stupid Lady

Papa John’s Pizza issued an apology to Cleveland and the Cavaliers for making T-shirts with LeBron James‘ number and the word “crybaby” under it.

To apologize, Papa John’s will sell Cleveland residents a large, one-topping pizza for 23 cents on Thursday (5-8-08). The company also will donate $10,000 to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.

The pizza chain’s T-shirts were featured during the Cavs’ games against the Wizards on Friday in Washington. Wizards fans taunted the Cavs, who won the playoff series that night in Game 6.

The shirts started after James complained about hard fouls, and Wizards center Brendan Haywood called him a crybaby.

So if you interested in gorging your brains out this Thursday, head to Cleveland to with a quarter and prepare to feast on ridiculously cheap pie!

Glorias x DC Gatsby

5 05 2008

DC

The Glorias x DC collab shoe comes with an aquatic theme and features all kinds of different materials, including patent leather, perforated leather, suede and also webbed leathers. On the outside, the shoe is kept very clean, just with a subtle red Gloria tag. The inner sole comes with some fresh graphics done by ‘Dr.Who?’ aka Lazer Comodore aka Patrick Giner. Another nice detail are the leather laces, giving the shoe almost a bit of a boat shoe look, but still ideal for the daily skate sesh.

Overall the outcome is great. A really fresh summer shoe in which Gloria will release at the end of June. Also look out for a very limited tee shirt to accompany the release courtesy of Dr.Who. Thanks to Sneaker Freaker for showing some nice images of the shoes.

SantogoldMelding a diverse set of influences, Santogold has been praised as the future of pop by Rolling Stone. She’s drawn comparisons to M.I.A. and worked with Mark Ronson. She’s also written songs for sneaker and dress champion Lily Allen. Now, she’s got a self-titled debut LP, which is crazy good. The album is available everywhere records and MP3s are sold.

“The future of music, today” - Rolling Stone 10 Artists To Watch.

“Singing in a haunting, sensual wail…she adds a layer of softness to an unusual mix of synthesizers, dance hall rhythms, and percolating new wave” - New York Times.

“Future-pop princess…next big thing” - Spin.

“Santi White is Santogold…the collaborators and players may change, the sounds may shift, but at the center is one woman’s indelible vision” - The Fader.
